Turkmenistan will take part in the Summer World Student Games

Turkmenistan will take part in the XXIV Summer World Student Games to be opened in Bangkok on August 8. The best young sportsmen, students under 28 years from all continents will participate in the competitions organized by International University Sports Federation (FISU) twice in a year.

The young sportsmen from more than 150 countries will compete for the title in 18 kinds of sports in 2007 World Student Games. The Turkmen sportsmen will represent our country in judo tournament.

According to Chairman of the National Judo Center, honored trainer Abdygapur Gokiev students of the National Institute of Sports and Tourism 22-year old G. Haitbaeva (under 63-kg weighting category) from Lebap and 23-year old Hudayberdy Sahatov (under 100 kg) from Ashgabat will represent Turkmenistan at the tournament. Both sportsmen took part in the 2006 Asian Games in Quatar. This year G. Haitbaeva has won silver medal at the Asian Sambo Championship and gold medal at the World Sambo Championship.

The trainer said that the tasks set before Gulnara and Hudaiberdy were to take the first places at the World Student Games and to prepare for the World Championship to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this September. The winners of the championship will receive the right to take part in the 2008 Olympic Games in Peking.
